Overview

The purpose of this diploma program is to provide students with the fundamentals of business administration skills and knowledge along with the essential skills necessary to design and develop websites.

Students will learn skills needed in business and industry such as computer literacy, numeracy, and cross-cultural communications as well as develop a basic knowledge of accounting, management, economics, marketing, organizational structures, business law, human resource management and services marketing. Students will also develop the practical skills to build and maintain HTML/CSS and WordPress web sites, manage Multi- Channel Digital Marketing, and design for the web using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. A final course is a capstone project defined by the student to develop a business plan, solve a potential business problem, establish a new system, develop a new product or service; which requires the integration of multiple courses taught in the Business Administration – Web Tech & Digital Marketing Specialty Diploma Program.Students who successfully complete the Business Administration – Web Tech & Digital Marketing Specialty Diploma Program will have an excellent foundation in a wide range of business topics as well as the practical skills necessary to design, develop and maintain websites.

*Students who successfully complete the Business Administration certificate program will be eligible for direct entry to the second year of this program.

Learning Objectives / Outcomes

  • Demonstrate their knowledge of basic accounting systems, apply accounting principles of accumulation, external reporting and expert uses of financial accounting information.
  • Apply skills to prepare and analyze accounting information for shareholder and management use in partnerships and corporations.
  • Explain an individual and group behavior in an organization.
  • Demonstrate their understanding of basic computer terminology, Windows along with their ability to use Microsoft Office tools including; word processing, excel, access and PowerPoint tools.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office Student software for various tasks.
  • Explain how the economy impacts business, industry and government decisions.
  • Identify the population trends of North America and how from a cross cultural perspective, the roles culture plays in interaction socially and within business.
  • Solve practical financial and math problems which are regularly encountered in the business arena.
  • Demonstrate their understanding of the functions of management including, planning, organizing, leading and controlling an organization.
  • Exhibit an awareness of the marketing mix, known as the 4 P’s of marketing, product, price, place and promotion.
  • Explain the Canadian business legal environment and form an appreciation for decision making based on common law, provincial and federal statutes based on examples of precedent.
  • Use skills to research, organize and reorganize thoughts to write effective blogs, essays, research and other such reports.
  • Describe approaches to human resources including policy and procedure for job design; recruitment, selection and compensations; employee development and retention; workplace health and safety; human rights and employee/labor relations.
  • Explain the expanded marketing mix (7 P’s) of 7 p’s of marketing services and be able to apply a gap analysis framework towards making service improvements or expansion.
  • Demonstrate skills to design, develop and maintain a website; code for the web and mobile; set up and maintain a content management system, and employ digital marketing strategies and tools to maximize website potential.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive awareness of problem solving, business planning or other such business challenge by integrating their business and technical skills for a key business or industry purpose.

Students will be well suited for entry level positions in a range of business, industry and government organizations including those that desire or require a combination of business administration knowledge with web design, development and maintenance skills.

Admission Requirements

1. Basic Requirements

  • Applicants must provide a valid Govt. photo ID or birth certificate
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum Age: 19 years.
  • Mature Students (19+ without high school diploma): May be considered based on work experience, resume, transcripts, and references. An interview may be required.

2. English Language Proficiency

Applicants must meet one of the following:

  • Minimum scores from accepted English tests (e.g., IELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT 46, Duolingo 95, etc.).
  • Recent English proficiency test (within 2 years).
  • Proof of English-language education:
    • 2–3 years of secondary or post-secondary education completed in English in eligible countries.
    • International credentials must be recognized by WES, ICES, or IQAS.

3. Students who successfully complete the Business Administration certificate program will be eligible for direct entry to the second year of this program.
